The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Engineering. The Department actively contributes to the academic, research and extension missions of the University.
Essential Job Duties
This person will be responsible for managing projects within the realm of green infrastructure and stormwater management. Initial responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with data analysis for multiple green infrastructure projects
- Engineering design for multiple stormwater projects across North Carolina
- Working with property owners and contractors to facilitate the installation of stormwater control measures
- Mentor graduate students.
This person will work within a team of on- and off-campus faculty and project partners. The employee is expected to liaise with faculty from other departments on stormwater controls and watershed management. Potential departments on campus would include, but not restricted to, Soil Science, Horticulture, and Civil & Environmental Engineering. Job responsibilities require travel in and out of state. This individual will team-teach multiple extension and outreach events. Experience in field data collection and management, working with municipal partners, AutoCAD or GIS, stormwater practice design, multi-tasking, journal article preparation, and statistical analysis is strongly desired.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Biological/Agricultural Engineering or Civil/Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
Other Required Qualifications
- Must have passed or be positioned to take the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EI designate).
- Proficiency in GIS, AutoCAD, spreadsheets, word processing, PowerPoint (or similar), and simple water quality and hydrology models is needed.
- A background in statistics
- Must be able to work in teams of campus and field faculty and must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Public speaking experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D.
- Academic background in applied stormwater research and/or design
- Familiarity with monitoring equipment and operation
- A proven peer-refereed publication record and proposal acquisition records
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
- The candidate must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
- Valid NC driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of start date.
